I realized a few days ago that this blog is already a year old. And probably neglected, at any rate, since I’m not to much of a blogger, rather being more of a bandwith hog getting Debian packages right after getting online (and after dselect update). The Blosxom blog engine didn’t help either, since I most usually do my surfing at home, and ssh-ing my way to spunge.org wasn’t keeping my interests up in maintaining a blog.
So in short, what I needed was a new way to blog. At nobody’s surprise, I found WordPress, and it seems pretty cool. For one thing, there’s a web interface that I can use, freeing me from ssh, as well as allowing me to do my surfing in a more comfortable manner, simply by switching tabs in Mozilla (Firefox). Another nifty thing it has is its Quicktags a la phpBB, vBulletin, and the late YaPP, that gives me more time to think about what to say rather than staring at the tags.
There are still a few caveats, though I think they’re pretty much petty. For one, I couldn’t download the latest stable version (1.2.2) via wget and friends because of some lame link redirection, so I had to use the CVS snapshot (1.5-beta1). It seems to be fine, though. Another is that I can’t seem to preview this post, although I haven’t read the f- manual yet, but I really think this should be intuitive enough. Well, you can’t have everything in one go, or so it seems.
All in all, the new engine has got me interested in blogging again after such a long time of hibernation. I hope that this is the new beginning of yet another round of drivel from me, a smalltimer here in Daet.
